Material Science Engineering

Material Science Engineering is the study of Properties of matter & applications. It is co-related with Physics and Mathematics. Material Science Engineering is taken by less number of students because of this reason many engineering institutions do not offer Material Science Engineering on their Campuses. Coursework in materials engineering includes applied physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.


  • B. Tech Material Science Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate engineering course which requires interest and good knowledge of Physics and Mathematics.

  • The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing class 12th/ Higher Secondary Examination in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English with a minimum of 70% marks.

  • Most of the Companies requires a minimum 65% score in 10 and 10+2.

  • The student must know the current placement trends in various engineering colleges and hiring trends in Industry.



  • Material Science is not taken by so many students as there are not many recruitments in Material Science field

  • Right now, it is not trending but there are possibilities that it come create trends.

  • Material Science is the field of large opportunities but because of very few candidates, competition is not high.

  • The Annual Salary package varies from 60 K to 6 lakhs.

  • The Average Package for Material Engineer is 2 to 3 Lakhs per annum.

  • Material Engineer: A material engineer specializes in metals, ceramics or plastics. S/he develops composite materials and studies the atomic structure of materials in order to discover new applications for their mechanical or chemical properties.

  • Material Analyst: A material analyst, using different software systems designs material and supply movement plans for companies. Job responsibilities of a material analyst also include tracking customer product demand, managing transportation of exports and imports, and developing productivity improvement proposals.

  • Materials Scientist: A materials scientist researches as well as studies the structures and chemical properties of different man-made and natural materials such as glass, metals, alloys, rubber, ceramics, etc.

  • Manufacturing Engineer: The job role of a manufacturing engineer includes developing manufacturing processes by studying requirements of the product and researching, designing, modifying as well as testing manufacturing methods and equipment.

  • Product Tester: A product tester is a professional who tests, evaluates and provides feedback of products that are being launched by a company.
